dj Orthopedics Introduces New Products at the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine Meeting (AOSSM)

Date

SAN DIEGO, June 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- dj Orthopedics, Inc. (NYSE: DJO), a global medical device company specializing in rehabilitation and regeneration products for the non-operative orthopedic and spine markets, today announced that it will showcase several new products in the areas of rigid and soft knee bracing and pain management at the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) meeting in Quebec City on June 24-27, 2004.

The Company's DonJoy® FourcePoint™ technology now incorporates an enhanced hinge with an on/off switch for its resistance mechanism. FourcePoint technology is designed for patients who have undergone ACL reconstructive surgery, who have ACL deficiencies or for the prevention of knee injuries. FourcePoint hinges provide increasing resistance in the last 35 degrees of knee extension to limit the time the knee is in full extension where it is at greater risk for ACL injury. The on/off capability enables FourcePoint braces to be worn post-operatively, with the resistance mechanism in the off position to facilitate proper ACL healing, as well as in the on position after the patient has achieved full leg extension. Over the past decade, ACL injuries have risen, especially in women, due to the public's participation in sports.

dj Orthopedics will also introduce its new Hinged Tru-Pull® Advanced System. As with the Company's non-hinged Tru-Pull introduced in 2003, the new Hinged Tru-Pull AS is designed to relieve pain associated with patellofemoral dysfunction (PFD) by utilizing a patented system of independent, wraparound straps that provide a consistent pull to stabilize the patella. The hinge mechanism provides a dynamic pull on the patella during knee extension to normalize patella tracking in the intracondylar groove to reduce anterior knee pain. PFD describes a number of painful conditions related to the patella, including partial dislocation, abnormal alignment, patellar tendonitis and osteoarthritis. PFD is one of the most common causes of knee-related visits to orthopedic surgeons' offices. Approximately 2.5 million people are treated for pain related to PFD each year, most commonly females 11 to 20 years of age. It is estimated that 25 percent of the population suffers from PFD.

The Company will also introduce its newest DuraKold® product, the Shoulder ImmobilICER. DuraKold products are
patented and reusable ice wraps that provide cold therapy for treating soft-tissue trauma. DuraKold products remain pliable after freezing and provide up to two hours of correct temperature cold therapy with conformity to uneven surfaces of the body. The Shoulder ImmobilICER provides cold therapy to the entire shoulder girdle area as well as providing immobilization of the
shoulder joint. The DuraKold family of ice wraps includes products for the shoulder, lower back, arm and wrist, or lower leg and ankle.

dj Orthopedics will be located in booths 130, 132 and 134 at the AOSSM meeting.
