dj Orthopedics Showcases DonJoy eXtreme Patriot and Alaron Surgical Workshop at American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Meeting

January 6, 2002

SAN DIEGO, Feb 6, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- dj Orthopedics Inc. (NYSE:DJO), a designer, manufacturer and marketer of products and services for the orthopedic sports medicine market, announced today that it will introduce the DonJoy eXtreme Patriot™ brace at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), Feb. 13-17 in Dallas, Texas. In addition to the eXtreme Patriot, the company will unveil a new program for its flagship Defiance® brace and showcase an Alaron Surgical instrument workshop in its booth.

"With more than 24,000 members, the AAOS is considered the world's largest and most influential medical organization of orthopedic surgeons," said Les Cross, president and CEO of dj Orthopedics. "The annual meeting of the AAOS offers an outstanding forum for sharing recent developments in science and industry, and we look forward to introducing the latest in our line of DonJoy and Alaron products and programs to this critical community."

The DonJoy eXtreme Patriot, which features an American flag pattern, was created as a tribute to the American athletes participating in the 2002 Winter Olympics. Designed by extreme athletes for extreme athletes, the brace features a medial thigh cut-away to prevent pinching and swiveling strap tabs that accommodate varying leg positions. Constructed of 60/61 T6 aircraft aluminum for lightweight durability, the eXtreme also offers additional sport-specific accessories.

dj Orthopedics will also introduce its new 24-hour turnaround policy for its best-selling functional brace, the Defiance. The new turnaround policy is designed to ensure that a patient's brace will be available to ship in 24 hours upon receipt of the patient's measurements or cast. This new delivery assurance, coupled with the brace's Knee Guarantee for quality and performance, conveys dj Orthopedics' confidence in the Defiance and its patented Four Points of Leverage bracing system for anterior/posterior control.

In the workshop, Alaron Surgical will highlight its new and innovative line of implants and instrumentation for the sports medicine and arthroscopy markets. The Bilok™ Interference Screw, featuring an absorbable composite material of Tri-Calcium
Phosphate and PLLA, will be available for demonstration. Other featured products will include graft fixation devices for hamstring and patellar tendon grafts, as well as instrumentation for Osteochondral Transplantation.

Representatives from dj Orthopedics -- including Brian Moore, product manager for the DonJoy eXtreme Patriot and Defiance, and Dan Pflaster, vice president of Alaron Surgical -- will be available for media interviews at Booth #5313 during the AAOS meeting, Feb. 13-17, at the Dallas Convention Center.
